Locarno welcomes British filmmakers
The Girl With All The Gifts opens Locarno
3rd August - 13th August 2016
The prestigious Festival del film Locarno kicks off August 3 with a huge Piazza Grande world premiere of Colm McCarthy’s The Girl With All The Gifts.
The smart zombie thriller stars newcomer Sennia Nanua, Gemma Arterton, Glenn Close and Paddy Considine.
Locarno’s artistic director Carlo Chatrian discovered the film in May when he came to London to scout new British films through the British Council’s festival selector screening service.
Ken Loach will be a guest of honour at the festival as he presents his Cannes Palme d’Or winner I, Daniel Blake on the Piazza Grande. The festival also screens a fascinating documentary about Loach, Louise Osmond’s Versus: The Life and Films of Ken Loach.
Other UK productions and co-productions in Locarno include shorts A Brief History of Princess X, Chandra; and Heidi. UK-Swiss co-production Late Shift will screen in Panorama Suisse, The Lobster will screen in Cinema of the Present, and US-UK 1964 co-production The Masque of the Red Death will be presented in the Roger Corman tribute.
