Syrian Stories - apply for our first workshop in Beirut
1st March - 31st March 2017
A new creative documentary programme for Syrian filmmakers kicks off with a workshop in Beirut in March.
The project will provide training for emerging Syrian filmmakers based in Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey through which they will produce a series of short documentaries.
These films will capture stories often overlooked by the media and will challenge stereotypes and misconceptions around the Syrian crisis, and shed new light on the experiences of those displaced by the conflict.
The films will provide an alternative viewpoint and act as a platform through which new and authentic Syrian voices can reach international audiences.
Further workshops in Jordan and Turkey will be announced soon.
Syrian Stories is a part of a wider long-term objective to enhance the role of artists and creative communities working in crisis-affected places. This body of work seeks to enhance individual and community resilience and support recovery and transition in conflict-affected environments through supporting artists and cultural actors to give voice to the marginalised, challenge dominant narratives, promote the values of diversity and inclusion and stimulate dialogue and new local, regional and international connections.
Syrian Stories is part of the British Council's Culture and Development programme.
