20th September 2018
British Council Film is delighted to be supporting this year’s Encounters Short Film and Animation Festival in Bristol, 25 to 30 September 2018 – one of the most important dates in the international short and animation film calendar.
It’s a great programme at Encounters Film and Animation Festival this year! BC film programme managers Jay Arnold, Christine Bardsley, Jo Duncombe and Gary Thomas will all be heading to Bristol to take part in an exciting itinerary of screenings, panels and networking sessions.
This year Encounters has a country focus on Georgia to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the twinning of Tbilisi and Bristol. They are screening four shorts programmes curated by the Georgian Film Centre (Animation, Archive, Contemporary and Student shorts) as well as a screening of the feature Dede (as part of their Shorts 2 Features strand) and the archive film Alaverdoba; they are also hosting a high-level delegation of filmmakers and representatives from the Film Centre and Tbilisi Mayor’s office. Christine Bardsley from our Film team will be there to meet them to explore possibilities for collaboration for the UK/Georgia season the British Council is planning for 2019.
We’re also pleased to be partnering with Anim18 http://www.anim18.co.uk/ – a celebration of British Animation – in supporting the animation talks programme.
On Thursday morning, the British Council boat sets sail from Bristol harbour, offering international short film programmers and British filmmakers a networking session with a difference, and beautiful views of our host city!
Our new Shorts Programme Manager Jo Duncombe will also be available for a series of one-to-one sessions where UK filmmakers can find out more about the British Council Travel Grant Fund and the Short Support Scheme. Filmmakers can book a session between 1pm and 3pm on Thursday.
Come and say hello if you’re heading to Bristol!
