Director Sinéad O’Shea represents the UK and Ireland at European Film Promotion's showcase of female filmmaking.

We are delighted that, in partnership with the Irish Film Board, we have nominated Sinéad O’Shea to represent the UK and Ireland at European Film Promotion’s Europe! Voices of Women in Film programme at the Sydney Film Festival.

Sinéad is a journalist and filmmaker working in current affairs for outlets including the Irish Times, the Guardian, Channel 4 and the BBC.

Her film, A Mother Brings Her Son to Be Shot, which premiered at the 2017 BFI London Film Festival, is a documentary set in post-Troubles Derry that examines the repercussions of a mother taking her teenage son to be kneecapped in both legs after he has been accused of dealing drugs.

The film screens at the Sydney Film Festival on June 9 and 10.
