Richard Ayoade's Submarine screened this week at Odessa

July 2011

British Council Film was busy in Ukraine this week when Film Advisor Christine Bardsley headed out to attend the 2nd edition of the Odessa International Film Festival (OIFF).

This year the OIFF included a gala screening of Richard Ayoade's Submarine. In addition, British Council Film supported this rapidly expanding new festival by providing a retrospective of Monty Python Films and arranged for script development expert, Phil Parker, to deliver a masterclass in the Odessa Film Summer School. Christine was there this week to see the Festival in action and to meet a range of current and potential partners for the British Council's work in film in Ukraine including Svitlana Smal and Victoriya Leshchenko, the Docudays festival team; Ivan Kozlenko, director of the Odessa “Silent Night” Festival; and Denis Ivanov and Ilya Dyadik, the Arthouse Traffic team who run OIFF and also work with us on our joint British Film Festival which tours Ukraine.
