British film is back in Israel
Festival guest Tom Cullen in Weekend
By popular demand we have revived our much-loved British Film Festival in Israel, once such an annual fixture in the cultural calendars of cineastes throughout the country.
Opening on 4 February in Tel Aviv with Andrea Arnold’s radical new interpretation of Wuthering Heights, the Festival will showcase ten of 2011’s best British films including the dazzling debut features Tyrannosaur, Coriolanus, Weekend, Submarine and Wild Bill in screenings around the country, taking in Jerusalem and Haifa as well as Herzliya, Holon, Sderot and Rosh Pina. Award-winning actor Tom Cullen from Weekend and Sandra Hebron, former Artistic Director of the London Film Festival, will be our guests during the Festival to help present the films.
The British Film Festival is an integral part of our programme of film activity supporting the UK-Israel Co-Production Film Treaty which was ratified earlier this year, and follows on from its launch at the Haifa International Film Festival. We will continue to support the building of closer relations between British and Israeli film makers, helping to breathe life into the treaty.
