Producers Lab at TIFF 2013

The fourth edition of Producers Lab Toronto kicked off at the Toronto International Film Festival, and Adrian Sturges is one of 20 hand-picked European, Canadian and Australasian producers gathered there for this highly-anticipated
networking platform to discuss the financial, creative and technical potential of trans-Atlantic co-productions.
The event is organized by European Film Promotion (EFP), in collaboration with the Ontario Media Development Corporation (OMDC) and TIFF. British Council is the UK member of EFP and we were delighted to nominate Adrian to be the British participant – his impressive list of producer credits include The Escapist, The Disappearance Of Alice Creed and Albatross.
Financial backing for Producers Lab Toronto comes from the EU’s MEDIA Mundus programme, the EFP member organizations, Eurimages and Telefilm Canada. The participants take part in pitching sessions, roundtables, VIP meetings, case studies and networking events within the framework of TIFF to exchange ideas and information on funding and co-production opportunities. The aim is twofold: to generate business relationships leading to international co-productions and to increase the visibility of the producers and their projects during TIFF.
The UK profile at TIFF this year has arguably never been higher; not only are there over 20 UK films screening in the various festival sections but also major UK talents like Benedict Cumberbatch, Kate Winslet and Keira Knightley are lighting up the programme – Cumberbatch is in three films no less, including Steve McQueen’s hotly anticipated 12 Years A Slave.
Our very own Briony Hanson is also there as we have a longstanding relationship with TIFF, having for many years organised preview screenings of new UK work in London for the TIFF selectors. This is a service we provide for 15 of the world’s major film festivals including Cannes, Venice and Sundance, as we are uniquely positioned to maintain comprehensive tracking of all UK features in production in order to provide the best possible intelligence to festivals on new work and new talent. We are also a family member of WE ARE UK FILM who mount the UK Film Centre at TIFF, showcasing the amazing range of UK films in the programme and supporting UK industry with their work there.
