See the British Council Archive Collection at HistoryShop
3-12 August 2011 | Meanwhile Space pop-up shop, Exmouth Market.
HistoryShop, a brand new pop-up in London's Exmouth Market, gives a chance for anyone to come in and see key films from the British Council's rarely seen archive of films.
A significant collection, the British Council Archive Films give a fascinating snapshot of British life in their own right offering a snapshot of the UK’s cultural, industrial and political heritage. However - you're invited not just to watch them but create your own "mash-ups" as Time/Image, an organisation that works with digital film archives will help you use Final Cut edit facilities, record your responses and oral histories, and attempt to crowd-source a new documentary - 'London 2011'. (Time/Image is currently are working on a project to digitise up to 100 films from the British Council’s archive currently held at the BFI).
With the whole project curated by New Deal of the Mind, this is a great chance for the public to actively get involved with history & heritage, simply by dropping in and out as a break from shopping on the street.
