Education and Training
There are a large number of organisations offering training in filmmaking and related areas in the UK. Apart from courses in full time education, many organisations offer professional, vocational training for freelance technicians and production crew. There are also a large number of courses aimed at producers and scriptwriters, and some for directors. Please check the websites of the various organisations listed on this site for further details of the current training they offer. Also check film festivals for initiatives (labs, conferences, courses etc) running during the festival period.
Skillset
Skillset is the national training organisation for Broadcast, Film, Multimedia and New Media. Their website includes extensive information on sectors and careers advice for those wishing to get in to the industry and those already working. The site has a database which gives information on thousands of training courses held around the UK from short courses to degrees, and courses aimed at new entrants to programmes for professionals. The site includes courses that are Skillset accredited (Screen Academies and Media Academies) as well as courses that are not. Skillset has a fund to give grants to organisations providing training. It also offers a variety of bursaries to support the skills training of individuals.British Universities Film And Video Council (BUFVC)
The BUFVC Promotes the production, study and use of moving images and related media for higher and further education and research in the UK.
Film Education
Film Education is the link between the UK film industry and the school education system. Its aim is to encourage and promote the use of Film and Cinema within the UK's National Curriculum. In addition to providing a wide range of free educational materials, Film Education organises workshops, seminars and an annual National Schools Film Week. Central to its work is the belief that studying film in the classroom can develop visual literacy and analytical skills.First Light Movies

The John Braebourne awards are named after one of the UK’s most prolific producers. The awards aim to support emerging talent to develop their careers in the film and TV industries. There are awards supported by the Cinema and Television Benevolent Fund and awards sponsored by various industry companies and organisations.MEDIA Programme
As part of its aim to strengthen Europe’s audiovisual industry the MEDIA Programme supports over 60 different training activities. In addition MEDIA Mundus, the European Commission's new international co-operation programme, supports initiatives including training courses, which strengthen cultural and commercial relations in the audiovisual industry between Europe and professionals of non-European countries.The Script Factory
