#FiveFilms4Freedom is coming…

21st February 2018

The world’s widest-reaching LGBTQ+ digital campaign returns for a fourth edition.

British Council in partnership with BFI Flare: London LGBTQ+ Film Festival will make five LGBTQ+ themed short films available for the world to watch online for free, over a twelve-day period.

The programme, which will feature work by emerging filmmakers from across the world, has been selected from and coincides with BFI Flare. Both Flare and #FiveFilms4Freedom run from 21 March-1 April, with a campaign day on Monday 26 March when global audiences will be encouraged to watch the films in solidarity with LGBTQ+ communities in countries where freedom and equal rights are limited. Audiences will be encouraged to share the films using the hashtag #FiveFilms4Freedom to recognise that love is a human right.

Last year the films were viewed 1.8 million times by people in 202 countries and principalities, including parts of the world where homosexuality is criminalised, and in some cases, punishable by the death penalty.
