Video: The Empathy Station at Sheffield Doc/Fest

Watch our video with Research psychologist Maria Panagiotidi talking about the Sheffield Doc/Fest virtual reality Empathy Station, including the fascinating rubber hand test.

Is virtual really (VR) the machine to make us more human? In association with June's Sheffield Doc/Fest, the British Council Film Team set up an installation to find out.

Combining neuroscience and VR, The Empathy Station uncovered unconscious biases with Doc/Fest audiences and collected data on how technology like VR might help evoke the empathy needed to overcome those biases.

We talked to research psychologist Maria Panagiotidi from Arctic Shores who told us a bit more about the science behind the project. You can also hear more from Maria and other experts with our VR podcast.
