Neo Nahda, written and directed by May Ziadé, was a More Films For Freedom Round 3 commission

We launched our short film commissioning programme exploring LGBTIQ+ stories in 2020, in collaboration with our friends at BFI NETWORK. Find out more about the programme and the films we have commissioned so far.

To date we've supported ten films over three rounds - and now we're looking for teams with great ideas to make up to three new projects that will have at their heart an element of collaboration between UK-based filmmakers and creative storytellers from both Africa and the Middle East.

The successful teams will be awarded up to £25,000 each to cover the costs of all stages of production, delivery, and travel.

Your idea might be fiction, documentary or animation, or cutting across all three. And we're looking for a strong central idea and storyline encompassing LGBTIQ+ themes, which will help the films reach a wide range of audiences internationally.

Our friends at BFI NETWORK have planned a range of info sessions to help different sectors in the UK and internationally to understand more about the programme - and a final session giving an opportunity to meet potential collaborators.

Session 1: Tuesday 25 July - 4:30pm (GMT)

Diasporic Filmmakers Information Session - particularly relevant for filmmakers that live in the UK but are Diasporic, who share a national or regional origin from the African continent or the Middle East

Session 2: Thursday 27 July - 12:00pm (GMT)

Queer Filmmakers Network/ Queer Filmmakers Collective Information Session - particularly relevant for Filmmakers already engaged with Queer Filmmakers Network, Queer Filmmakers Collective, or are filmmakers that identify as LGBTQIA+

Session 3: Monday 31 July - 4:30pm (GMT)

Africa and Middle East Information Session - particularly relevant for filmmakers who currently live in Africa or SWANA (Middle East) regions
